The way the kid had run off the moment they got to town had confused her for a moment, but she let it go. She hadn't been in the business of seeking him out for any kind of reward, so it was easy to let him run along home. She did need to tell someone about the bear though, just in case any other hunters wanted to go and have a look for themselves. She was sure a one eye'd pissy bear would be a fun hunt, but not alone.

She had other pressing matters to attend to. Casca was hungry again, as was she, and she felt the need to get the little weasel that had become her new companion, cleaned up a fair deal. She'd kept her little nesting spot inside her furs for the entire trek back to town, so Ryia was confident that she was alright. She felt alright, if only in the sense that Ryia could tell when a creature was in distress.

The tavern was quite when she returned, though that wasn't surprising for the time of day, at all. Her things were still in the room she'd paid for through the end of the week, and after asking for two bowls of any leftover stew from the night before, and a bowl of hot water, Ryia was settled in one of the darker corners of the tarvern. She'd helped herself to the gravy like broth of the stew, leaving the chunks of soft vegitables and meat for Casca, who lay at her feet, eating noisily from the bowl.

"Why don't you come out'a there and let me clean you up?" She asked, trying to coax Sabvir out of her temporary nest under Ryia's furs. She had a scrap of cloth, and the warm water to do as much with, if Sabvir would let her. If not, she was sure the little weasel would clean herself up.

Sabvir had stirred from her warm spot when Ryia loosened the furs around her neck. The first thing to appear was a tiny black nose that wiggled as she sniffed the air. Sufficed that the only 'danger' she smelt was the large cat, which had shown no interest in her the night before, Sabvir slowly climbed out of Ryia's coat and sat, hunched, on her shoulder. It only took her a few seconds before suddenly stretching out and climbing down Ryia in a quick scurry where she leapt the last few inches onto the table.

Still shaking off the warm sleep, Sabvir merely sat with half closed eyes upon the table.

Upstairs it was a different story. Rhys had made the choice to stay in the Inn longer than necessary and wait for Sabvir. He had felt the tug of their connection strengthen which told him the little creature hadn't been far now. She would arrive soon. He passed the time using his abilities to read from a small leather bound book he had brought with him on the journey- so absorbed was he in the tomb and using his abilities that he nearly missed when his connection to Sabvir suddenly snapped back to full strength.

Ryia had been fully prepared to need to coax the little weasel out of her spot with another bit of jerky, but when she came of her own accord, she was given the jerky as a reward instead, and a little brief rub between the ears with her finger, "There we go. Ya sure are filthy." Ryia mused out loud before she picked up the cloth she'd grabbed for this exact purpose.

She dipped it in the warm water before setting to her task. She did her best to be careful, for more than one reason. She suspected Sabvir was the familiar from her childhood, so she knew full well to be mindful of her work, but even if not, she wasn't entirely certain that the weasel wasn't injured. She didn't get the feeling she was, but it was best to be sure.

Casca on the other hand, was noisily devouring the last chunks from his bowl, loudly snuffling into the dish trying to get every last scrap of soft vegetable or questionable meaty morsel.

Sabvir immediately began to snack down on the jerky while Ryia cleaned her up- she ate as if she hadn't gorged herself on the stuff the night before. She was obviously STARVING! Look at her, just wasting away to nothing! Her tiny eyes closed while Ryia worked the dirt from her fur, and as the soil began to wash away little by little, the distinct coppery smell of old blood became prominately mangled with the scent of earth. Closer inspection would show the tiny weasel was absolutely covered in dried blood that had stained her fur, now mostly covered by a good layer of dirt.

But as Ryia worked on turning Sabvir white once more, the little weasel felt rather pleased with herself. She had traveled a 'long' way, avoided predators, scored not only amazing jerky but also a ride the rest of the way into town, AND she could feel her person near by. . . . She could feel her person nearby!

When the realization finally set in that Sabvir could feel Rhys near by, a good five or so minutes had passed and her fur was plenty damp from the washing. The little critter suddenly dropped the jerky she was eating and shot off the table like an arrow let loose. She zigged and zagged as if in a panic before finally darting back towards Ryia's table only to make a sharp turn and stopped at the foot of the stairs. She sat back on her hunches and with a pulse of energy she leapt onto the first step and with a quick springing motion began to clear them one by one.

Rhys, upstairs, rolled his shoulders uncomfortably at the attached emotions he received from Sabvir. It eventually got to the point that he would snap the book closed and pinch the bridge of his nose, head down slightly, until receiving a shock of excitement from Sabvir. That's when he too leapt to his feet and swiftly crossed the room, threw open the door, and started down the hall towards the stairs at a quick pace.

With Sabvir preoccupied with the Jerky, Ryia was able to get a good deal of the dirt off her, though the old blood seemed to be a bigger problem, and a little more concerning. Though it was clear none of it belonged to Sabvir, Ryia was curious about how she managed to be covered nose to tail in blood, and who that blood actually belonged to. Casca stopped snuffling in the bowl long enough to lift his head and give a sniff in the weasel's direction, before he wrinkled his nose, breathing through his mouth, obviously disliking the smell of the blood.

Ryia managed to get a most of the dirt, and a bit of the blood, but not all of it by the time Sabvir had a sudden burst in energy and excitement that even Ryia picked up on, and bolted from the table. Despite knowing better, the sudden movement caught Casca's attention. With a scrabble of claws on the wooden floor, he was off after her as Ryia called a protest, tripping over herself to chase them both.

"Casca don't you dare!"

Her yell was enough to cause him to hesitate, and he slid on the smooth floor in his attempt to come to a sudden halt, and collided almost comiclly with the bottom step of the stairs, giving a pittiful yowl though he wasn't hurt. Just what dignity he had left.

Sabvir was narrowly missed by Casca's slide into the bottom steps. The tiny weasel bounced excitedly between two steps as if torn between going up them or coming down. Part of her wanted to return to Rhys, the other part found itself still drawn to Ryia. Her mind was made up when Casca yowled- the little critter hopped down the step, bravely pounced on the feline's head and used the momentum of her spring to dart up the steps one by one again.

Rhys, who had at that point made it down the hall, turned onto the narrow staircase and began to quickly descend them while keeping one hand against the wall. For a nearly blind man he did relatively well with the stairs. He had taken great care, as always, to count the number of stairs he'd taken on his way up his first time ascending them. He would always mentally count his footsteps from one place to another- it helped map out his surroundings. But what he hadn't accounted for was suddenly meeting Sabvir five steps from the ground level. She chittered excitedly and easily skipped to the side to avoid his footing, pinged off the wall, and attached herself to his leg. She scurried up quickly enough but it was Rhys who paid the price of her surprise pounce. He miscounted and took the last four steps at a complete stumble.

Being used as a springboard to assist in her trip up the steps send Casca's overlarge ears flat against his skull and an irritated growl in his throat. He was annoyed, but not to the point to snap after her stubby little form. Instead he just huffed in annoyance and turned his head to give Ryia a look that plainly said 'I didn't do anything don't yell at me.'

Ryia reached the base of the stairs and patted him on the head. Footfalls from higher up drew her attention up just in time to see Rhys misstep and take a stumble. There wasn't exactly time to do anything about it. Not even to move out of the way and hope for the best. She tried, and ended up tripping over Casca. Casca managed to scatter away from the spectacular spill that was the two people landing in a heap at the base of the stairs.

Rhys, literally, didn't see it coming. He had fully expected to either hit the ground, twist an ankle, or possibly continue his stumbling into the nearest diner table and disrupt whatever guests might be there. Instead he made impact with something exceptionally soft and....hm, squishy? His ungraceful trip down the stairs had delivered a shock to his system, really he should have been used to tripping unexpectedly, but heck this was going down stairs! He oofed as his body made contact with another and before he could react he found himself face first in what he belatedly realized was a woman's breasts, both arms braced on either side of her. Mean... he assumed it was a her. Antistia help him, either way the situation was not dignified.

It was rare that Rhys blushed. Normally even the jarring of someone hoping to embarrass him wouldn't get so much of a reaction from him. He had lived so much of his life repressing practically every emotion that it was rare that any reaction beyond a shadow of a smile was given in most situations.

But this?

No, this had him a shade of red in a matter of seconds.

He jerked his head back quickly and began to shuffle backwards the best he could but if he weren't immediately pushed off, more or less straddled the woman. "My apologies Miss!"

Sabvir, meantime, slinked out of the back of his tunic where she had seeked shelter and began to zip around his shoulders and over his head very excitedly. She didn't care that she was adding to the problem at hand by being a distraction.

The only one who seemed to be entirely offended by the situation was Casca. Who was currently growling lowly in the corner, short tail lashing the floor in annoyance. Mostly, it was because he'd been tripped over and was none to happy with the situation as a whole. He wasn't the biggest fan of the weasel, and to have her be the cause of this, he was sure, was even more reason to dislike her. He vocalized that with some feline chatter in Ryia's direction.

She on the other hand, having landed quite ungracefully on her back, was simply surprised to find Rhys on top of her, and quite red in the face. To her, it wasn't that bad. He hadn't been overly handsy, and it was a fall. No one was at fault. She didn't push him away, simply let him get up on his own. It was better that way incase he was hurt. She didn't want to hut him more with a shove or anything. He sat up and apologized. She got her elbows under her and propped herself up, one hand brushing her unruly red hair out of her face, actually laughing a bit.

"Oh, s'alright." She looked him over and then laughed out loud. She remembered him, or his face at least. Not so much his name, "You can get off'a me though." If she recalled correctly, his eyes were terrible. She wondered if he'd remember her by her voice alone.

Rhys couldn't have helped the red tint of his face if he had wanted, but he did shift backwards and carefully stood up before stepping backwards. His few steps bumped him into the pillar that supported the second floor and lead up to the staircase, he stopped abruptly when he bumped it and touched it momentarily. The feline chattering had caught his attention, it had caught Sabvir's too, who had suddenly ran down Rhy's arm, still full of excitement, and attempted to leap off it.

He managed to catch the weasel as one might a bar of soap- fumbling a few times until he had a hold on her with both hands, bringing her closer to his chest. As happy as he was to see Sabvir, her excitement to see him and the collision he'd had made him a bit jumpy. "I hope I haven't hurt you?" Sabvir wiggled in his grasp. It was safe to assume that Rhys hadn't recognized Ryia by her voice alone. It had been eight years since he had heard her voice, hadn't it? And the last he'd heard it, she had been much younger and prone to that childish tone still.

Rhys, after all that time, appeared to have changed little. He wore virtually the same clothes, though now the leather vest that had been so new at the time certainly showed it's ware, as did the boots he wore. Not that it was filled with holes, but it was certainly broke in at this point. His face was clean shaven- one could guess the man probably couldn't have grown a beard to save his life. But other than this he looked only a tad older than he had before. More mature, one might say. Hardly any larger but at least he had gone from scrawny to just 'slender'.

Sabvir heaved a 'big' sigh and wiggled a little more. She chittered in Casca's direction as if to chide him for being on the floor in the first place, this was all obviously his fault! Rhys cupped his hand over her head to shush her up. "Don't you know better?" He spoke lightly down at Sabvir.

One should not threaten things larger than you- for you are edible!

Rhys backed up and into the support pillar, while Ryia stayed where she was on the floor for a moment longer before she got to her feet with a soft groan. Oh she'd be bruised for sure. Granted, her bottom had taken a majority of the impact, she'd still hit the ground pretty solidly. Nothing she couldn't handle. That might have something to do with Casca's clear irritation however. Another chuckle slipped from her as Rhys struggled with the excited Sabvir but managed to catch her.

"Mmm. I'm fine. Taken worse spills." She waved off his worries and looked over at Casca who was very irritated. He chattered even more back at Sabvir when she scolded him. How dare she! It was clearly her fault for being small and annoying and fast. Obviously Ryia wouldn't have tripped over him if she'd controlled herself. Besides that, she was still dirty and he disliked that as well.

Ryia clicked her tongue to hush him up, and immediately he quieted, giving her a look that spoke volumes about how unfair it was, and even opened his jaws to make a soft noise in reply, disliking Ryia taking Sabvir's side. "I'm takin' no one's side, but stop arguing, you big baby." She scolded one last time before looking back at Rhys, "You're one of Abernathy's boys. I remember you." What she didn't say was that she couldn't quite recall his actual name.

Whoops.

There was a clear sign of confusion on Rhys' face when Ryia spoke towards the chattering, but it quickly resolved itself as he realized she too must be speaking to a familiar. Sabvir again wiggled in his cupped hands and just managed to poke her nose out from between his thumb and fingers, sniffing the air the best she could. Rhys wasn't exactly smothering the tiny creature but she was none too happy that he wasn't returning her sheer excitement over her being back. The woman he'd smacked into suddenly mentioned his last name, and that she recognized him. It was now that Rhys tried to place her voice, though admittedly he failed, "I am," He confirmed. Distractedly for a moment he wondered if Merry were hanging about the establishment and had seen his fall- but the absence of his crowing laughter told him that, if he were still hanging around, he hadn't been about to see the spill. Which was good.

"I'll have to apologize again, I don't recognize your voice."

It didn't surprise him that someone in the town should recognize him necessarily, but what had surprised him was maybe the youthfulness of the woman's voice. Generally the ones who recognized him were well in their age by then. "Rhys Abernathy," He had honestly never seen his own reflection but was pretty sure he didn't look anything close to his brothers to be mistaken for them. "You are?"

Sabvir sniffed again but as Rhys minded her mentally with their connection, she calmed enough that he carefully lifted one hand off the other and instead gently stroked down her back. He could feel the grit beneath his hands, aware of how dirty Sabvir likely was---- not to mention wet. Which meant he likely smelt like wet weasel now.

One final short and sharp whistle, and a little gesture with her hand was all it took for Casca to fall silent, though still unhappy. He rose from his spot several feet from them and padded over to sit at her feet, butting his head against the back of her knee in apology. She nodded slightly, gave him a little rub behind his ears before her full attention was back on Rhys. He gave his name without her needing to ask, which was great. Rhys. Right. Now she remembered. He asked her name and she answered promptly.

"Ryia Maelyss." She wondered if he'd remember her now with her name, but if not it wasn't too bad. She was just an annoying kid when they'd first met. Climbing trees, stealing fruit, and asking too many questions. "She's a right mess. I was trying to clean her up before she shot off. Found her out in the woods, covered in filth." She explained as he started to stroke the weasel. No doubt he'd notice she was damp and whatever dirt she had on her, he was getting on himself.

The name did ring a bell, although it had taken a few steps for him to recall the memory since they had only met once. Her last name he knew from family trade, which called up the fact her father had a few children but only one girl- who he'd met, in his father's home, climbing a tree and making a nuisance of herself.

Safe to say that little nuisance had grown up. "Miss Maelyss," He offered just the hint of a smile, "I remember you now, as well." She had made a right annoyance of herself by the end of their little meeting, if he recalled correctly. Could he say she was much smaller? He couldn't. He could probably say she had less breasts back then but no way in the history of Aerlion was that about to pass through his lips.

He didn't seem to mind his hands getting dirty, but when Ryia spoke Sabvir perked up again and teetered on his hand. "Did you? Thank you for bringing her, it's been nearly two days since I'd lost her." He didn't elaborate immediately, "She's been through plenty..." His unfocused gaze fell to Sabvir, "She's taken a shining to you, though. Is there any way I could repay you?" Green eyes returned to Ryia's general area, though the dim light within the tavern made it harder for him to pinpoint her. He managed fairly well to not look in the wrong direction however.

"Ach. Just call me Ryia." She insisted almost instantly when Rhys got polite. She didn't mind manners, had some herself even, but didn't much enjoy being called Miss, or by her family name at that. Ryia was quicker, and honestly, much easier to pick up on in conversation with folks and respond to. Sometimes she didn't always hear the family name, or if she did, she didn't always answer to it. It was hard to get rid of some habits.

As Sabvir perked, Ryia lifted a hand and waggled a finger at her in a sort of wave, acknowledging her while her attention stayed on Rhys, "If you don't mind me asking," She started, but realized even if he did mind, she was going to ask anyways, "What were you doin' that you 'lost' her? It wasn't just dirt she was covered with. I know dried blood on fur when I see it." If he wanted to repay her, well, she had a few ideas, but she didn't voice them right away.

Casca had the right idea though, and he padded closer to Rhys, sniffing in his general direction, before looking up at Sabvir and chirruping at her. He was a smart cat, and took notice of the funny way he looked at Ryia, and took it upon himself to scold Sabvir for letting her person be broken.

It actually caused Ryia to flinch slightly, before hissing between her teeth at him, "Tssst. Stop that you." She even went so far as to snap her fingers and gesture for Casca to return to her side. He pretended not to notice, and took that moment of oportunity to rub his back along Rhys' leg like the overgrown pet he was.
