Aurilis was born to a family that wasn't financially high status, his parents having a difficult time keeping food on the table was a common occurrence. The farm it self wasn't large and was only able to produce enough crop to sell at the market. Being the youngest of two other siblings, he felt the less of the brunt as his older siblings always seemed to have a treat or two for him if there was no dinner. They would help care for the farm and few animals that were there. Aurilis seeming to have a way with animals but it wasn't picked up on. A few days after his ninth birthday his siblings decided to take him to market seeing how he worked their family's fields all day. They wanted to take him out with the small amount of coin they were able to save up. It was on this day that his and his family's lives would change.
As the group of three siblings were in front of a store after just buying a small amount of treats the sound of pounding horse hooves came closer than they liked and as they looked up the three saw a horse careening straight towards them. Something gave the horse a straight fright with no rider on the back of it. The horse was close enough to the boy that he could see the nostrils flaring and the white of it's eye. And as if he knew what to do he held his hands up toward the horse, not caring if he was a small bean to it he was going to protect his family no matter what. With that he sent as much calming and toned down feeling he could towards the beast heading towards them. And to the boys surprise, the horse seemed to listen. It started to slow down, it's breathing lessening in depth, mind clearing to focus on the small boy in front of him. It's fear leaving and filling with something else. Of course upon seeing this his siblings cheered him. Something had come of the family after all! Of it wasn't money it was the blessing of a gift.
When the horses rider finally caught up with his horse he saw the small boy soothing the creature and petting it's muzzle. Seeing this, the guard allowed the children lead him to their families small shabby farm. Once there he explains what happens and says there is an Argent due to leave the village the next day. He convinces the family to pack what little Aurilis has and the man, thankful for the retrieval of his horse and honored to be in the presences of a gifted one, offers to take the boy out of the village to find the Argent on the road and have him tested there to see if he is in fact gifted.
His parents obliged whole heartedly seeing this as a blessing that someone in their brood would make a name for themselves one day. Aruilis is taken the next morning and he and the solider catch up to the Argent on the road-- It happens to be Father Klaas and a group of other Argents! The guard tells the man of how he some kids at the market threw rocks and stones ant his horse just as he gotten off of it and how the boy ended the horses rampage before anything bad could happen. Father Klaas tests him, confirms he has a very strong gift for Animal Affiaty. Father Klaas offered to take the boy on his last journey to the market and the guard rode off to let the boy's family know of the news.
Being at St Antistia's Monastery, life wasn't easy as one would think. After showing his gift he was taught more than he thought one couldn't even possibly know. He was taught how to read and write to government, wilderness training and so forth. During his schooling with the help of his Animal Affinity gift he was able to choose, or have the horse choose him two years before graduating. The horse that was chosen was a basic stock horse but intelligent and loyal as they came. Short and stocky as they come. But he was beautiful in his eyes. A sable in coat color and white blonde hair and always with the Aurilis when possible, liking to stick close. His teachings went one for nine years after arriving at the monastery. Learning more of his abilities he was able to train in Animal Affinity more and discovered a new gift of Empthy. Since his graduation at the age of 18 at the monastery he felt the need to help breed Familiar's, after the incident that happened while he was younger he always felt a pull towards this particular gift.
Every now and then he would send extra coin the his family. He will always miss them immensely even with visiting when he could. But he knew his work for the Monastrey was important above all else. His love of the horses he watched over showed in how he handled each and every one. From what scared a certain one to their favorite treat, he knew he would always be around horses for the rest of his life.
A week after Aurilis's arrival the young Acolyte had been given the responsibility to help care for Sage's mother under the watch of an older Argent as the boy had such a gift with Animal Affinity, they wanted to see how well of a gift it was. The mare was in foal and with her intelligence and stableness all around it was hoped this would be passed down to the foal for a future Argent. While Aurili's was caring for the mare on day, she had started to show signs of going into labor and with help of the Argents around a new foal was born to the Monastery.
As soon as Sage was born, it wasn't his mother that he had layed eye's on it was the young scrawny boy Aurilis. This had a big impact on Aurilis and even more on Sage, it was like a link went off in his fresh mind and the boy was now his to be with. As in turn the young foal had turned into Aurili's responsibility to care for and once they came closer to age, train him in the ways of proper protocol for an Argent mount.
He grew to learn to keep calm in difficult situations that may arise and work his way around certain obstacles in his way with the training along side his Argent.
Smart enough to unlock paddocks and stalls, and knew when it wasn't a good idea to do so. His mother's intelligence and soundness shown to have passed down to the young horse.
Sage isn't a horse chosen for his looks though, his body is strong and well built, a yellow dun in color. His mane is a mix of dark brown and light blonde normally allowed to free flow unless out then it's kept in a braid along with his tail.
